Mount Korab
Mount Korab is the highest peak of the eponymous mountain range and the fourth highest mountain entirely located in the Balkan Peninsula, standing at 2,764 metres. The summit of the Korab mountain range in the Albanian-Macedonian border, Korab is the highest peak of Albania and North Macedonia and also one of only two summits in Europe, which are the highest point for more than one country.
Mount Korab is also the 18th most prominent mountain peak in the European continent and the third on the Balkan Peninsula. Korab is situated within the Korab-Koritnik Nature Park. It is noted for its rich flora, including species such as Bosnian pine, European beech, Coppicing forest, and Alder forest. The peak lies adjacent to the Šar Mountains. Mount Korab is also pictured in the national emblem of North Macedonia.
Lura-Dejes Mt National Park
The Lurë-Dejës Mt National Park is a national park in northeastern Albania, spanning an expanded area of 202.42 km² since 2018 by encompassing the entire section of Kunora e Lurës, former Zall-Gjocaj National Park, and Dejë Mountain. The park was originally established in 1966 to protect the various ecosystems and biodiversity as Lura National Park. The altitude vary from 1,500–2,300 m. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has listed the park as Category II. Nevertheless, it is described as an important Bird and Plant Area, because it supports significant bird and plant species.
In behalf to a great variability in elevation, Lurë-Dejës Mt National Park is densely populated in vegetation. Higher plant life consists mainly of both coniferous and deciduous trees, particularly around the shores of the lakes. The most common tree native to Lurë is the european beech along with silver fir, black pine, red pine and bosnian pine.
Especially protected is the balkan pine, which is threatened with extinction and only common in the west of the Balkan Peninsula. The southern section of the park has a meadow of multicolour flowers and several coniferous trees, which is called the Field of Mares, offering pristine views over the landscape. In terms of phytogeography, the park falls within the Pindus Mountains mixed foreststerrestrial ecoregion of the Palearctic Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome.
Zall-Gjoçaj National Park
National Park Zall Gjocaj has a surface of about 140 hectares and is situated approximately 40 km northeast of the city of Burrel. It offers a very picturesque view and good possibilities for developing the ecotourism. The presence of numerous sources and system of ravines make it more beautiful. Therefore there is a typical plant kingdom of mountain areas: lack pine and beech. The old woods that are 150-200 years old are very attractive with their giant shape and a view dressed with ivy plants, moss and mushrooms. Among the animals here, we can mention the brown bear, wolf, fox, wild boar and many others.
Korab-Koritnik Nature Park
The Korab-Koritnik Nature Park is a nature park in eastern Albania and forms a section of the European Green Belt, which serves as a retreat for endangered animal and plant species. It encompasses 55,550 hectares of alpine mountainous terrain, with valleys, rivers, glacial lakes, caves, canyons, dense coniferous and deciduous forest. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has listed the park as Category IV. Both, Koritnik and Korab has been recognised as an Important Plant Area of international importance by Plantlife.
Korab-Koritnik Nature Park starts on the frontier with Kosovo in the north along the border with North Macedonia to the Desha Mountains in the south. The nature park is named after the Korab Mountains and Koritnik Mountain. Korab is the highest summit of both Albania and North Macedonia, standing at an elevation of 2,764 metres. It is also one of only two summits in Europe, which is the highest point for more than one country and as well the 18th-most prominent mountain peak in Europe.
